Inside the Numbers

  • Justin Steers posted a career-high 21 points along with 12 rebounds and three blocks while hitting 5-of-10 from the floor and 11-of-13 from the stripe.
  • Nendah Tarke hit four 3-pointers and finished with 17 points with six rebounds while tallying four steals.
  • Sam Sessoms also notched a double-double with 16 points and ten assists to go with four steals.  He became the first CSU player to record at least ten assists in a game since Taariq Cephas dished out 12 assists at NC Central on January 24, 2015.
  • Kam’Ron Blue chipped in with 13 points, all of which came after the first half.  Alex Rojas added nine points with three 3-pointers off the bench while Mike Hood and Justin Winston finished with seven and six points, respectively.
  • Georgetown put five players in double figures, led by Primo Spears with 28 points and Bryson Mozone with 20 points.
  • The Hoyas outshot Coppin, 47.9% to 38.9%.  The Eagles hit 13-of-38 (34.2%) 3-pointers and 20-of-24 (83.3%) free throws.
  • CSU forced the Hoyas into 18 turnovers and turned that into 18 points.  The Eagles were impressive in transition, outscoring Georgetown, 18-4 on fastbreaks.

How it Happened

  • The bout, which featured 13 ties and 16 lead changes, was tight from start to finish as neither team led by more than seven points in regulation.
  • Georgetown got out to an early five-point lead off the opening tipoff, but Coppin bounced back with a 7-0 run and took its first lead of the game as Tarke banked in a three at the 14:03 mark.
  • The Hoyas answered back, opening a six-point lead, but CSU stayed in it with a series of runs. Georgetown used a late 6-0 run late in the half and led by as many as 36-29 with 1:19 to go before Sessoms drove in for a layup.
  • Sessoms forced a turnover at the opposite end and got the ball to Tarke who hit a three just before time expired, making it a 36-34 score at the half.
  • Coppin led for most the second half and held its largest lead at 61-54 with 9:24 in regulation following a 8-1 run.  Sessoms and Tarke hit back-to-back threes, and after a Georgetown free throws, Sessoms found Winston inside for a transition layup.
  • The hosts came right back with a fury, tying the score at 66-66 and took a 73-68 advantage with just under five minutes to play.
  • Blue continued his hot shooting in the second half with a three in response before adding a pair of free throws after the final media timeout to tie the score.
  • Spears hit a jumper just outside the paint to put the Hoyas back on top before Sessoms found Rojas in the corner for his third triple of the game, and more importantly giving Coppin a 76-75 lead.
  • After three lead changes, Georgetown opened a 83-78 lead with 25 seconds left before Steers putback a miss by Tarke with 17 seconds to go and making it a one-possession game.
  • Following a timeout, the Hoyas missed a pair of free throws and Coppin immediately went to Tarke.
  • Tarke put up a potential game-tying three with four ticks left, and the rebound went long to Hood who drained a three from the wing to send the game into overtime.
  • In the extra session, Georgetown struck first before Hood tied the score with a pair of free throws.  The Hoyas then scored six-straight before a Tarke layup cut it to 91-87 at the 2:24 mark.
  • Georgetown then put the game away with back-to-back threes that Coppin was unable to match.
